How to create your own website
This tutorial will help you to create a website. It is intended for beginners/ laypeople. It will give you a step-by-step guide to the process of creating a website. I assume that you know more than how to open a website.
Name for your website
The first basic thing you need to do is to get a domain name. This is the name you want to give to your website. E.g. the domain name of the website you are just reading is “tutorialsnet.com”. To get this name you must pay for the right to use this name for one year. Buying such a name does not give you a website or anything similar, it’s just a name. This works like registering a company. Having a company name does not mean that you have warehouses, offices, etc.
Hosting for your website
Hosting is simply a company that has computers connected to the Internet. When you place your website on their computers, everyone in the world will be able to connect to them and browse them. You will have to register with such a company so that your website has a home. And so: if buying a domain name is like a company name then hosting is like renting an office and warehouse.
Designing your website
Once you post the domain name on the server, the next step is to design a website. I assume you will do it yourself. If you employ a professional you may want to skip this point.
As a beginner you have many things to consider. Tuning the page will come after you catch the basics. You can use WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) – what you see you get. Such editors will allow you to design your website visually without having to bother with details. There are many editors, both paid and free of charge. For those who have nothing against spending money I recommend Dreamweaver. However, if you prefer free programs I recommend KompoZer. There are many editors of this kind.
Testing your website
Although this step is described separately, it should be used throughout the process. You will have to test your website in all major browsers: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome. All these programs are free of charge so you won’t have a problem installing them on your computer.
Submit your website to search engines
When your website is ready, you will have to report it to search engines, especially Google. However, reporting only to Google misses the target if you don’t have links to your website. However, if there are many links to your website on the Internet, do not even waste your time reporting it to Google. They will find it.
Promoting your website is very important. You have to count towards promoting the ways people used the Internet before: advertisement in a newspaper, verbal message.
Summary: Of course, this guide is not exhaustive. It is just an outline of the most important steps.
